Episode 83b: Asif Ali- Adorable Enough, Funny Enough, and Works Well With Others

Hola from the stormy, steamy center of Phoenix in the middle of monsoon season!

This week’s podcast is the second half of our superfun conversation with Asif Ali!  You remember last week, we don’t need to remind you, right?  It was fun!  There were exotic birds!  Questionable business tactics!  Beginning comedy!  Moving to Chicago!  Moving to Los Angeles…and sudden stop.

So, we pick up exactly where we left off–Asif leaving Chicago with his brother and making it out to LA.  It’s a really interesting take on acting in Los Angeles, from  an ethnic Indian perspective.  There’s a hint of racism in that an Indian actor can get pigeonholed and keep themselves from getting really good roles later on down the road by taking the more plentiful terrorist roles.  You’ll also get to hear the benefit of being a comedian in a room full of actors all going out for the same part.  And don’t forget–don’t be an asshole.  Good talk.  Love this guy.

Wednesday at Hidden House, celebrate the passing of yet another Bastille Day with an evening at Phoenixes’s Longest Running Independent Comedy Show!  Bartender Brian will fill you with so many drinks you’ll start speaking French, and super special guest host Erin Ontko and fellow comics Aaron Kyle, Ron Foligno, Anthony Desamito, Matt Storrs, Jordan Hotchkiss, Dustin Elkin, Genevieve Rice, Wisconsonian visitor Rio Hillman, and first timer Amy Carpenter will all have you laughing all the way to the guillotine!

This Thursday at Monkey Pants, get creeped to the core with Jonathan Gregory and fellow comedy ghouls NegativSteve, Alex Lemoine, Matt Storrs, Chris Centanni, Marc Silverstein, Genevieve Rice, Kristofer Royer, Jason Hill, and The Cat in The Hat himself, Joel Carroll!  Hair-raising comedy at 8.30, disturbing fish racing at 11; spooky $4 bacon wrapped deep fried hot dogs smothered in nacho cheese all night long!
