Descending from the heavens, another S&M Comedy Weekly Update befalls your ears!
Holy cow, we’ve been busy. Or spinning our wheels, perhaps, it’s hard to tell. We do know that we have one wrap-up from this past week and a ton of things coming up to talk about, including shows that we’re not even producing. We’re on shows that we’re not producing?!? Crazy, right? Well, let’s get to it! But let’s not get weird in here. Chronological order only, please.
Last Friday was a beautiful day for history, and we were pleased as punch to be a part of it! S&M Comedy Presents…This Day in History went splendidly, if we do say so ourselves. Since Steve was representing PHX Comedy at Stanford & Son’s in Kansas City, Jamie was the only S&Mer on hand at Space 55, but all the comics on the show came fully prepared and ready to rock, and everyone that took the mic did a positively smashing job! There is something so special about these shows, seeing comics take these challenges that we present to them and absolutely run with it- it might be akin to seeing your child ride a bike without the training wheels for the first time. Maybe. It’s hard to tell, because kids suck. All of them. Even yours. Anyway, thanks to everyone who came out, thanks to all the comics for bringing it big time, and thanks in advance for everyone that’s getting ready for next month’s S&M Comedy Presents…Silence: Comedians on Storytelling!
This Thursday at Monkey Pants, slip out of the pool long enough to rinse the chlorine out of your eyes and get some comedy in your ears, as Charlie Speez headlines his very own three years of comedy celebration! James Hoenscheidt, Teddy Bearskovich, Dave Schnier, Nate Sinclair, John Connell, Ernesto Moncada, David Krienbrink, Jim Babmbrough, David Delgado and Aaron Miles will all be on hand, helping to blow the roof off the place in raucous revelry! Stick around for some after-party goldfish races, and we’ll construct a sheet cake comprised entirely of $4 bacon wrapped deep fried hot dogs with nacho cheese frosting! Eeeewwww.
Friday, Jamie and Steve will be making their Tempe Center for the Arts comedy debut, opening for the improbably creepy Jonathan Gregory! We’re really excited to be on this show and to hang out with PHX Comedy stalwart Tony Vicich and the whole TCA family!
On Wednesday, 7/24, we’ll be doing some nerdy-ass comedy at Hero Comics & Gaming as part of the Superior Spider-Man Launch Party! Artists Al Sparrow, Andy Bohn, Ben Glendenning, Jean Arrow and Mike Macropoulos will be on hand all night, and some of our favorite geeky comics such as Charlie Speez, James Mabry, Zed Phillips, Ernesto Moncada and Matt Micheletti will be joining us on this very special event! The whole event starts at 5p, with comedy kicking off at 8p, so get there in plenty of time to take in all the dorky festivities!
Tuesday, 7/30 at Monkey Pants, we’ll be recording our third LIVE S&M Comedy Podcast! You should be there because it’s always fun and chaotic and totally absolutely free! You can buy $5 wings and cheap ass beer, but the podcast will cost you nothing other than your sweet attention! Steve Maxwell, Kirk Buckhout, Myke Dehu, Anthony Desamito and John Connell will be our panelists that evening, so it will certainly be a ton of fun with a relentless amount of good-natured ribbing among old friends and new faces.
Whew! That about wraps it up for us and all our crap! Hopefully among our myriad activities, you can find something in your neighborhood that turns your crank, and maybe we’ll get to see your smilin’ face out soon!
Thanks for listening; keep coming out to shows and supporting the Live, Local, Jolly, Jovial, Bouncy, Convivial Independent PHX Comedy Scene!
